The Christian faithful who come together as one in expectation of the Lord’s coming are instructed by the Apostle Paul to sing together Psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles. (Col. 3:16). Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy - thus St. Augustine says rightly, “Singing is for one who Loves”. There is also an ancient proverb that says “Whoever sings prays twice over.”
The parish Choir sings every Sunday at the 10 a.m. mass and at special liturgies during the year. Normally we rehearse at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays, sing for the 10 a.m. mass and then rehearse for one hour to prepare for upcoming masses. We welcome singers from age 8th grade on up through great-grandparents! Winter visitors are welcome to participate during their time with us.
Sunday masses feature a Cantor (solo singer) who leads the Psalm and the Gospel acclamation. The Cantor needs to be blessed with a pleasant voice, and be willing to prepare the music in advance and rehearse.
At the 10 a.m. mass, we have the blessing of Mike Bosarge on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Milton Essig on saxophone, and would love to add more instrumentalists.
Rosemary Spaulding is the cantor and musician at the Saturday Vigil Mass.
