“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1499) The local hospitals are often kind enough to ask the following questions:
While a hospital chaplain might come to see you, it is no longer legal for the hospital to notify us of when you have been admitted. YOU MUST NOTIFY YOUR PARISH and REQUEST A PRIEST. THE HOSPITAL WILL NOT DO SO FOR YOU. Anyone who is facing serious surgery or is suffering from a serious illness can be anointed. Please call the Parish office at 251-981-8132 or Fr. Paul at 251-800-1278 to make arrangements to receive the sacrament. |
